Will you be our new manager for municipality-wide teams? We are looking for a manager to work 36 hours a week.
What will you do?
The most important aspect of this role is ensuring that the colleagues you (indirectly) manage are able to carry out their work effectively and, as a result, provide good support to the municipality’s residents. That may sound simple, but sometimes it isn’t. New initiatives, rules and opportunities are launched both internally and by external parties. It is important to strike a good balance between “continuing to do what works” and “optimising where necessary”. You will constantly be called upon to make careful judgements in this regard. Discussions with colleagues and external parties will help you with this.
As a manager, you will lead three team leaders, who together manage around 100 colleagues within teams including Youth Work, Volunteering, Informal Care, Community Development, Status Holders, Meeting & Participation, the EPA (Severe Psychiatric Disorders) team, and the EropAf and Collective Working teams. You are therefore responsible for the direction, cohesion and development of these municipality-wide teams without directly managing day-to-day operations.
Your role involves
- managing the team leaders. Together with your fellow manager and the team leaders, you will work towards a more consistent approach to leadership within the municipality-wide teams.
- provide guidance on substantive programmes and tasks. We run a large number of programmes in collaboration with external partners. You will have final responsibility for deciding what we do and will guide the team leaders on how to go about it. In doing so, you will work closely with the programme manager, who is in charge of a number of major programmes and projects.
- highlighting the results and social impact of the municipality-wide teams. You ensure that both within Amaryllis and to external parties, it is clear what the teams do and what they achieve.
- promoting integrated cooperation. You will ensure effective liaison between the neighbourhood and village social teams and the municipality-wide teams, so that we can make the most of each other’s knowledge and capabilities.
- take responsibility for a substantive portfolio. Together with your fellow manager from the Social Neighbourhood and Village Teams, you will divide up the overarching thematic areas. You will be responsible for the content of your portfolio and will act as the commissioning authority for changes and innovations. Examples of portfolios include Poverty and Debt Counselling, Children and Young People, or Prevention. In doing so, you will work closely with your fellow manager, the team leaders, the programme manager, senior management, the local authority and other partners.
It is expected that, in due course, you will also be managing policy officers and a number of support departments.
You have/are
- Approximately 10 years’ experience in managing teams within the social or healthcare sector, with experience of indirect management via team leaders being an advantage.
- You have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in the social sector: welfare, care and local government, which means you can quickly get to grips with the substantive tasks involved.
- experience in successfully implementing new thematic areas.
- You have experience in data-driven decision-making and have previously helped an organisation to adopt a more data-driven approach.
- strategic and analytical skills, and you know how to translate these into clear decisions and direction.
- A collaborative leadership style: you give people the freedom to act where possible, provide guidance where necessary, and know how to get people on board with change.
- organisational sensitivity and an awareness of different interests, both within and outside Amaryllis.
- You are results-oriented, a strong communicator and able to switch easily between content, people and administrative issues.
- curious, reflective and professional. You work on the basis of trust and integrity.
- work and cognitive level.
We offer
- a meaningful management role in which you will make a direct contribution to the development of social work in the municipality of Leeuwarden.
- a 36-hour-a-week contract.
- A one-year fixed-term contract. Subject to satisfactory performance and mutual satisfaction, there is the possibility of an extension.
- A salary based on scale 12 of the Social Work collective agreement, ranging from a minimum of €4,703 to a maximum of €7,972 gross per month (36 hours), depending on qualifications and experience.
- Excellent terms of employment, including an Individual Choice Budget, a good pension scheme and ample opportunities for development. You have a say in how you organise your schedule and workspace, although a significant proportion of your work and collaboration takes place on-site during normal office hours.
- a laptop and a smartphone on loan.
