Games for everyone

Steffen during games afternoon

Minicurling, building bridges or Yahtzee, every Friday afternoon is game afternoon at the Nije Skalm in Stiens. Volunteer Steffen organises the afternoon so people can meet and just have some fun.

Around 12 people of all ages sit at the table. Some are alone, others with a partner or family member. "Since we have been in the Nije Skalm, the group is so big," says Steffen. "First we were in the old Skalm. Sometimes only two people came there. I spoke to Christel from Amaryllis, she arranged for us to sit here every week now. The social workers from the Social Village Team North sometimes also forward residents to this group. This way we get to know each other and have fun playing games. Nothing has to be done, everything is allowed." This is how we help each other!

Free clothing

Besides socialising, people can also drop by to pick up clothes. These are delivered by Neighbour and Neighbourhood and keep Steffen at home. "Sometimes I change some items or get new ones. People who are not so well off can pick up clothes here for free."

"Visit Amaryllis, they helped me too."

Would you also like to organise something for neighbourhood or village friends? "Drop by Amaryllis. They helped me, who knows maybe they can help you too," says Steffen. Rather join the games afternoon? Every Friday afternoon from 2pm you are welcome at the Nije Skalm in Stiens.

From homelessness to home ownership

A few years ago, Dennis' life consisted of a vagrant existence. He lived from day to day and went jail in, jail out. "At that time, I thought it was all for the best, I didn't care that much. From home I didn't get a good example either," Dennis says. When Dennis came out of detention...
