Music for all
On Monday mornings, the community band meets to practice music. Fatma is the group's singer. She discovered the neighbourhood band through an online call. She saw that it was part of the project "Art in the Neighbourhood," and it immediately appealed to her. "I was excited to take part in a music project," Fatma says. She has been taking singing lessons for a while, but it is still a challenge for her to sing in a group. Also because every group dynamic is different.
At the community band, everyone works together, with songs even being adapted to suit Fatma's voice. She feels at home in the group: "The atmosphere is always fun, and I am always learning something new, both about music and myself." Practising together and the weekly rehearsals give her a place to develop and challenge herself musically. She enjoys working not only on her singing technique, but also on her self-confidence by singing in front of others and discovering new songs together.
Fatma enjoys being part of the community band. "The band brings people together, of different ages and backgrounds. It really is a group, where everyone is welcome and can contribute something," she explains.
